Giant Hogweed - Information for Residents

Giant hogweed has been found in Webster. Residents should be aware of the DEC guidelines for identifying and reporting the plant.

Giant hogweed has been found in Webster. 
One plant was located on the North side of Schlegel Road, along the road side, and was removed. This location is in the vicinity of Kent Park, but No plants were found inside the park or ball fields.  
Residents should be aware of the DEC guidelines for identifying and reporting the plant. 
The giant hogweed is a Federally listed noxious weed. Its sap, in combination with moisture and sunlight, can cause severe skin and eye irritation, painful blistering, permanent scarring and blindness. 
The DEC brochure below outlines how to identify the plant, report it, and protect yourself should you encounter the plant.
