Community Planning & Development

The Town of Webster’s Department of Community Development is comprised of professional planners, building inspectors, code enforcement officials and administrative support staff that perform four (4) primary functions which include:

The Department is responsible for coordinating the land use review and approval process for a wide range of residential, commercial and industrial development projects and provides support and technical assistance to the Town’s various advisory and regulatory boards, including the Conservation, Planning, Zoning Board of Appeals, and Town Boards.

The Department is also responsible for ensuring compliance with local, state and federal regulations associated with zoning, environmental quality review, building, fire prevention and property maintenance codes.

In addition, Community Development establishes policies and procedures required to meet the Town’s long-range goals and priorities, including pursuing grant opportunities, and Town Code updates and revisions.

Our core mission includes:

  • Ensuring that buildings and properties within the Town are properly constructed and maintained to protect the health, safety and general welfare of the community.
  • Creating a stronger, more resilient community, while protecting and preserving Webster’s unique character, utilizing sound planning and design principles.
  • Encouraging and facilitating community engagement and involvement in the decision-making process.
