[ARCHIVED] ATV Usage on Town Property

ATV Usage on Town Property

RE: ATV Usage on Town of Webster Property

Dear Residents,

Webster Town properties and parks have seen a significant increase in ATV and dirt bike usage in the last several months. The use of these motorized vehicles on town property creates safety concerns for residents and damages the infrastructure of the many trails and hiking paths.

Volunteers from The Friends of Webster Trails spend countless hours creating a safe and enjoyable trail system for hikers and it is unfortunate individuals are damaging and destroying many of these features with the use of ATVs and dirt bikes. Town code 230-10 prohibits the use of motorized vehicles within Town parks; “No unlicensed motorbikes or other unlicensed vehicles shall be permitted in any area of a park.” While we can appreciate the need to enjoy this type of recreation, we stand by the fact that it should not be done on land owned by the Town of Webster.

Residents who own ATV or dirt bikes should operate them on private property where they do not impact the Webster community, its parks and properties. Furthermore, we are seeing both adults, teens and children operating these ATVs without any concern or care for the damage to the property or the users on the trails at the same time. Owning an ATV or dirt bike does not provide a pass to operate them on Town owned land and we are asking the community to assist with ending the unnecessary damage of Town property. If you know individuals who operate these types of motorized vehicles, please share that riding on Town property is not permitted.

We appreciate those residents who have stepped forward with useful information to determine where some of these ATVs/dirt bikes are originating from. We will be working with the Webster Police Department to identify the violators, and it is our hope that we can eliminate the unnecessary damage to Town trails and the wonderful features we have to offer the community.
