TOWN OF WEBSTER SEEKS PARTNERSHIP FOR REHABILITATION OF FORMER WEBSTER FURNITURE STRIPPERS BUILDING

Rehabilitation of property critical to West Webster Hamlet revitalization efforts;

Business opportunity accompanies application for Restore NY funding assistance

Webster, NY – The Town of Webster is seeking potential partners in the redevelopment and rehabilitation of 600 Ridge Road, formerly the Webster Furniture Strippers building. This partnership is sought to accompany the Town’s pending application for Restore NY funding assistance from New York State.

Restore NY provides financial assistance to municipalities for community development projects involving the revitalization of both commercial and residential properties. Applicants should note that the Restore NY funding program is a reimbursement program and approved rehabilitation activities will have to be completed before obtaining State assistance funding.

“The Alliance has been a vocal proponent and supporter for the revitalization of the West Webster Hamlet,” said Matt Chatfield, Executive Director of Webster Economic Development Alliance. “Removing the blighting influence of the property at 600 Ridge Road is critical to promoting investment in this part of our community.”

Qualified and serious applicants should submit a letter of interest and resume to planning-zoning@websterny.gov no later than November 1, 2024. Resumes must include a description of development experience and available capacity to conduct, manage, and finance rehabilitation of the property to be considered.

Based upon the review of submissions, the Department of Community Development in collaboration with Webster Economic Development Alliance will select those respondents deemed to have sufficient relevant experience and capacity to undertake such a project. Trespassing on the property prior to a formal tour invitation is strictly prohibited.

Upon selection of a preferred developer, the entity and the Town of Webster will rapidly identify a scope of work and associated cost estimates for rehabilitation of the building for submission as part of the Town of Webster’s Restore NY funding request due in December.

“The Town of Webster remains committed to the revitalization of the West Webster Hamlet area. This unique opportunity for a public/private partnership represents a significant milestone in our efforts to reactivate this long-standing vacant property,” said Josh Artuso, Webster Director of Community Development. "Rehabilitation of this site, along with other nearby vacant properties, will be a catalyst for continued improvements and additional investment in the West Webster Hamlet area.”

600 Ridge Road is at the heart of the West Webster Hamlet at the intersection of Ridge Road and Gravel Road. Its location and presence in four corners of the hamlet make this property essential to the goal of economic revitalization of the area. The Town of Webster officially took ownership of the property in March 2024.

More information on the West Webster Hamlet Revitalization Project and this opportunity is available on the Town’s website.
