It is the Highway Department’s practice to replace mailboxes that are damaged by the town during snow removal operations. Replacement of your mailbox is done as a courtesy; the town is not legally liable for damage to mailboxes.

Special Mailboxes:
The department does not repair special mailboxes. Any and all damaged mailboxes will be replaced with a standard 4' by 4' post and mailbox. If you have a special mailbox, you may consider replacing it for the winter snow season with a standard mailbox.
More Information:
Position your mailbox 41″ to 45″ from the road surface to the bottom of the mailbox or point of mail entry.
Place your mailbox 6″ to 8″ back from the curb.
Put your house or apartment number on the mailbox.
